The world of official statistics is made of hundreds of public, international, academic, private or other agencies involved in the production, archiving, publication, or analysis of the data. While their existence, roles, and responsibilities are often well known and defined, finding general information about them, even as simple as a web site or contact, is often not trivial. A few public directories are available on the web but are not particularly comprehensive or interactive.
The objective of the OpenMetadata Agency Directory (OMAD) is to address this issue by providing a user friendly searchable catalog of major statistical agencies around the world. OMAD goes beyond the simple address book concept and provide, when available, direct links to data and documentation services, focusing on metadata-standards-based ones. The site offers advanced search options around the agency characteristics, services, standards, and related practices.
OMAD is intended to be a community driven knowledge base. We strongly encourage users to contribute and provide feedback by complementing or correcting existing information or suggest missing agencies.
OMAD is in its initial stages and we do have several features we plan to implement in the near future, some or them listed below. We welcome your thoughts and suggestions as to which you would like to see come to life first or other fucntionality you would like to see provided.
